In the Dera Ismail Khan mayoral election, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Umar Amin Gandapur defeated Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) opponent Muhammad Kafeel Nizami by over 20,000 votes.
Unofficial results show that Umar Amin Gandapur earned 63,753 votes, while Muhammad Kafeel Nizami of the JUI obtained only 38,891 votes. With 32,788 votes, Faisal Karim Kundi of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) came in third.
In a Twitter message, Asad Umar, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, Reforms, and Special Initiatives, thanked Ali Amin Gandapur and PTI workers on defeating JUI-F in its home constituency earlier in general elections and now in local government elections.
He claimed that a man who is unable to protect his home constituency tries to destabilise the administration.
Meanwhile, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, re-elections for City Mayor, Tehsil Chairman, Neighborhood and Village Council seats were held in thirteen districts for local government elections after polling was interrupted during the first phase of local body elections owing to a brawl and the deaths of candidates.
Among the 13 districts are Charsadda, Nowshera, Khyber, Mohmand, Mardan, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Buner, Bajaur, and Peshawar.
